Primary Objective:  Supports customer’s expectations and project deadlines by acquiring necessary information from customers/sales to create solutions for customers while meeting or reducing budgeted time and costs.  This position typically works with little or no assistance and supervision.

 Key Job Duties: 

  1. Creates concept drawings using CAD software.

  2. Creates concept cost sheets based on historical price information.

  3. Creates/maintains systems for concepting/pricing that is efficient, well organized and secure.

  4. Designs and details on projects as needed.

  5. Conducts research and design activities as required.

  6. Develops new technologies to set up apart from our competition.

  7. Participates in “kick off” meetings to ensure projects follow concept and budget.

  8. Schedules “tough project” meetings as needed.

  9. Participates in brainstorming activities as needed.

  10. Assigns concepting/pricing duties to appropriate people as necessary.

  11. Solicits quotes from vendors for purchased components.

  12. Attends trade shows and maintains relationships with vendors to stay abreast of latest technology and ensure continued technical support

  13. Provides in-house and on-site technical support to customer; understands/modifies customer’s plant layouts to create solutions.

  14. Communicates with peers, team and project leaders, management and customers to provide upgrade/update information, project status, technical support and product/process improvements.

  15. Assists in other areas and performs additional tasks as needed.

  • 2 year technical education in related field or

  • 4 year mechanical engineering degree preferred 


  • Excellent computer and CAD skills

  • Excellent print reading skills

  • Excellent understanding of mechanical linkages and components (i.e.,

  • Bearings, sprockets, pulleys, air cylinders)

  • Knowledge of the metric system, fabrication process, raw materials, plating, electrical and mechanical assembly preferred         

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continued improvement processes preferred    

Experience and/or Other Requirements:  

  • 5 years packaging-related experience can substitute for education or a relevant combination of education and experience will be considered

  • Must be detailed oriented
